Tamar Halperin & Andreas Scholl, The Theatre Industry During Corona
Classical pianist Tamar Halperin and countertenor Andreas Scholl both studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel and have strong ties to the city. The husband-and-wife team have been hugely successful, both together and individually, touring the world with their classical repertoires as well as their mix of contemporary and classical music; they also have a YouTube channel. Tamar was an English Show team member for a number of years, and she and Andreas were recently in Basel for a visit. Anna Wirz caught up with them to talk about their connection to Basel, crossing music genres, and how they're faring as touring musicians during corona. Listen to the interview here.
Our correspondent Ben Moult (pictured here with Elton John) has worked in the theatre for many years. When Covid hit, not only did the music industry suffer, so did the theatre. Most theatres globally have been closed since the middle of March, with no fixed date for re-opening. New York's Broadway and London's West End have postponed the opening of new shows until 2021. Ben talked about trial performances with social distancing, disinfectant solutions, and theatres' requirements for breaking even. Listen to the segment here.
