Gurtenfestival Special with Rival Sons and Editors
Today's show is a Gurtenfestival special! The English Show's Anna Wirz spent four days at the festival in Bern from July 17 - 20, taking pictures (check out the photos and review here) and trying to keep her inner fangirl in check when interviewing her favourite bands.
California rockers Rival Sons were up first. The band released their 6th album "Feral Roots" earlier this year, adding layers of rootsy Americana to their trademark rock and roll sound. They played a blinding set at the festival, with lead singer Jay Buchanan's vocals as astonishingly raw and impassioned as always. Just before their concert, Jay Buchanan told Anna about how it feels to be on stage, singing barefoot, and taking care of yourself in this noisy world. Listen to the interview here.
At their Gurtenfestival gig, Editors nearly blew the roof off the tent stage by launching right into their biggest bangers and never letting up for the next 75 minutes. Before their concert, Editors bassist Russell Leetch talked about the kind of music the band bonded over in their early days, the new "Blanck Mass Sessions" album, and floating down rivers. Listen to the interview here.
