Rubbish Rubs Swiss Neighbors Raw; Muba Hosts Cannabis Village At This Years Fair

News For 3 April 2018

The high cost of disposing of one's trash in Switzerland continues to encourage some to dispose of their trash over the borders in France and Germany.  Official trash bags cost 2 Swiss francs in most municipal areas, and that's after the time spent sorting organic from recyclable waste.  Where people live close to foreign borders, a few brave souls have taken matters into their own hands, packed the largest bags they could find with their refuse and dropped it by the side of the road outside Switzerland.  A local Baseler was tracked down after doing just that in France, and having forgotten that he'd also thrown away old invoices with his name on it mixed with the other garbage.  French customs officials estimate they intercepted 10 tonnes of waste brought from Switzerland in 2017.  Normally a fine of 150 euros is assessed and culprits are forced to return home with their garbage in their autos.

In an effort to grow attendance at its fair, the Muba consumer products show which begins on the 20th of April, will also host a special parallel Cannabis Village fair.  Exhibitors will feature the use of the plant as medicine and revenue crop and not just a recreational drug.  600 square meters of exhibition space will be dedicated to vendors of hemp pastries, beer, textiles, medicinal products and building materials.  Although its not clear if some vendors will be selling the recreational, high-potency, recreational version of the plant, organizers claim to have invited vendors of drug abuse services as well to counsel those seeking help, and provide a balanced view to visitors of drug abuse.
