Started in 2016, Stadtpilze (or City Mushrooms) has found its enterprise flourishing as demand for its city-basement grown mushrooms..for lack of a better word: mushrooming.  Housed underground in the St. Johann's quarter in an unassuming residential block, the proprietors offer an interesting and unique approach to sustainable urban farming.  The mushrooms are grown using spent coffee grounds from the many cafes in Basel, and are delivered via city bike fresh to local restaurants.  The proprietors are now working on a 40,000 franc crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to fully commercialize their operations.
