Culture Calendar, Battling Cows, Songs About Spring

Every spring in Valais, the local Eringer cows battle it out to be declared «Queen of Queens». It's not like bullfighting, where a human fights a bull to the death. The «Combat de Reines» features cows with blunted horns vying for dominance of the herd. The annual events draw up to 50,000 spectators. This year's battle will be held on 12 and 13 April at Le Châble in Val de Bagnes in canton Valais. 

Elsewhere in the culture calendar, we looked at events and shows that are about to wrap up, but that you don't want to miss before they're gone. The Interfinity Festival is on until Friday, April 11 at the Voltahalle and Stadtcasino. The Science Fiction design showscase at the Vitra Schaudepot is wrapping up in one month. The Tinguely's Fresh Window show ends in May as well. 

Other upcoming events include the UK-based Funny Women comedy show, which comes to Basel on Wednesday, April 9; the AeroCollectors aviation memorabilia swap at the Euroairport; a guided hike in English to the Röttler Schloss on April 12; the Marché des Rameaux in Alsace from 11-13 April; Zeal & Ardor at the X-TRA in Zurich on April 9; and Pink Floyd's «Dark Side of the Moon» played in concert at the Musical Theatre Basel on April 14.
