Basel Zoo Oceanarium - February 2019

Some months ago, Basel City government gave the go-ahead for the city’s Zoo to start planning its latest expansion project. On February 26th, 2019, Basel Zoo officials unveiled one of the Zoo’s most ambitious plans ever - a new, state-of-the-art Oceanarium. We sent our roving reporter, Andrew Craven, to find out more from Dr. Heidi Rodel - Vice Director of the Zoo and Project Leader for the new Oceanarium. He started by asking her: if Basel is hundreds of miles from the ocean, why do we need an Oceanarium at all?
