From STRÖMBERG with LØVE at Lichtfeld Gallery

Karl Strömberg, born 1970, is an English abstract stencil expressionist artist. Despite a lack of formal training, Strömberg found a technique that was built on honest intricate layers of emotion. At the age of 25, Strömberg took a 10-year hiatus from art, only to return after a near-fatal injury on his travels in 2010. On his return, he brought a more mature, intellectual approach which allowed him to create some of his best work to date. The most iconic being (so far) the "Vandalism" piece, which depicts a heavily armed British Special Forces Soldier (Believed to be Strömberg himself). The vandalism piece went viral within a few hours and was published in the New York Times, Huffington Post, LA Weekly, Complex magazine (and a few others around the globe).

The most striking theme of Strömberg's first exhibition in Basel is LOVE. After spending the past year in Great Britain, he saw a country divided by Brexit, and on the other side of the pond, the division created by one of the most controversial presidents of the Western world. In order to heal these new wounds, Strömberg has zeroed in on this topic from different angles.

But there is also a playfulness in the works of Strömberg - Candy Cans, Lego Batman and Prince Bowie are all the result of this more cheeky side of his.

Karl Strömberg will fly over to Basel from London. Over the past four weeks, he has created twelve new works which he will be presenting as an exclusive premiere in Basel.

Strömberg will create a wall work of 4m x 8m in the backyard at the gallery from the 18th of April.
