Icon Painting Course

Learn to paint Russian / Byzantine icons in this weekly course with Nina Gamsachurdia - meditative painting with gemstone pigments and gold which will give you an insight into the Byzantine technique.

Using an already existing or a newly designed icon template, each student paints his or her own icon on a wooden panel. You'll use pigment paints that you mix yourself, made out of gemstones such as lapis lazuli, jade or jasper. You'll learn all the steps of icon painting, from wood priming to leaf gilding.

You will also get introductory lectures on the history and symbolism of early Christian painting.

Who: No prerequisites necessary except basic manual skills. Everyone can paint an icon (using a template and under guidance).

When: Every Wednesday from 18:00 to ca. 20:00, around 14 - 16 lessons

Next course starts 15 February 2017, until the end of June 2017 (no lessons during school holidays)

Cost: CHF 950.- (excluding cost of material; this will be calculated according to your choice of icon)
