Basel Firsts defeat Zürich 41-31

It was a tough day for conversions.

Basel took the lead after Dante Coladonato scored a try at the 15-minute mark.  Teammate Dominic Baumann missed a two-point conversion and the score stayed at 5-0 in favor of Basel.

Zürich took a 7-5 lead minutes later after a try and a conversion.

Lorenzo Ceccarelli put Basel back in the lead by scoring a try. Teammate Samuel Rapp followed with a try of his own and gave Basel a 15-7 lead.  However, the conversion attempts for both tries were unsuccessful.

Zürich responded with a try and a conversion at the 37-minute mark and bringing the score to 15-14.

Jan Hössli increased the lead for Basel with a try six minutes later, unfortunately Thomas Spicher missed the two-point conversion.

Zürich eventually took the lead and led 28-20 after 48 minutes of action.

Rapp scored a try and Hössli hit Basel’s first conversion of the match minutes later.  The team trailed Zürich with a score of 28-27.

Zürich was awarded a penalty kick after Basel’s Spicher was given a yellow card. Zürich successfully made the kick and led the match with a score of 31-27.

Rapp and Hössli put Basel back in the lead with a try and a conversion.

Niklaus Tanner followed with a try and Hössli kicked another conversion for Basel.  The Firsts held on to the 41-31 lead until time expired.
