The Starwings‘ season has ended.
Basel’s premier basketball team, fresh from an important victory over Luzern, traveled to Monthey in a must win situation.
The team had their backs against the wall from the start due to injuries to topscorers Petar Babic and AJ Hess. Both players were scratched from the match.
Monthey took advantage by outscoring the Starwings in the first half of the match.
Björn Schoo led the Starwings with 14 points and tried to led the team back into the game.
Monthey continued to scored in the second half, ran away with a 26 point lead and won the final game of the regular season with a score of 79-53.
The Starwings needed a victory in order to participate in the 2018 postseason.
However, the Starwings should be proud of their season, considering the circumstances. The team went without a practice facility and did not have home court advantage for many of their games, which were results from a fire at the Birsfelden Sporthall last November.
