Basel Starwings defeated BBC Monthey 95-89.
Basel’s chance of making the playoffs is still alive.
The Starwings, led by top scorer AJ Hess, took control early by outscoring their opponents in the first two quarters. Basel had a 47 -38 lead at halftime.
BBC Monthey made things interesting in the third quarter. The team chipped away at the deficit by outscoring Basel by five points.
The fourth quarter saw Basel’s lead shrink to three points. However, with the score at 80-77, the Starwings went back on the offensive in the final three minutes and held on for the victory.
Hess led the team with 21 points while Petar Babic followed with 19 points.
The Basel Starwings are currently in ninth place in the NLA Division, with five games left to play.
Three of their opponents, Luzern, Riviera Vevey and Winterthur are in 10th, 11th and 12th place respectively, while Lausanne and Monthey are higher in the rankings.
