Therwil Flyers sweep Bern Cardinals in season opener.
The reigning Swiss Baseball Champions began their season the same way they had ended the last one: with dominant pitching and timely hitting.
The Cardinals carried a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning. That was when the Flyers decided to turn things up a notch.
Immediately after Therwil scored two runs on a throwing error, Rafael Eigenmann drove in Hideori Oshima with a single.
Javier Jose Rodriguez drove in two more runs with a double.
The Cardinals were clearly shaken and committed another throwing error which allowed another run for the Flyers.
Adrian Kaufmann nailed a single to right field which enabled teammate Rodriguez to score. Sven Leemann advanced to third base as a result.
Hideori Oshima hit a single to left field which allowed Leemann to score.
The Flyers continued to tack on singles and when the inning ended, the team took a 12-2 lead over the Cardinals.
Bern added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Flyers had another dominant response.
Leemann hit a double to right field which allowed Rodriguez and David Castillo to score.
Sebastian Zwyer scored on a groundout.
The Flyers loaded the bases thanks to a hit batter and a wild pitch. Therwil scored twice more thanks to walks.
The team scored more runs due to a throwing error and the first game ended with a score of 19-4.
The second game was much closer. The Flyers took an early 6-1 lead after two innings.
Bern chipped away and scored two more runs in the top of the third inning.
Taka Oshinobu hit a double to center field which scored a run for Therwil in the seventh inning.
Leeman hit a double which scored two more runs which gave the Flyers a 9-3 lead.
The Cardinals fought back in the top of the eighth inning by scoring three runs. The effort was not enough and the Flyers won the second game with a score of 9-6.
The Flyers are in first place of the NLA Division.
