Democrats Abroad - Global Presidential Primary 2024
Super Tuesday in the U.S. marked the beginning of the weeklong Democrats Abroad global presidential primary, a time when Americans living outside the country can make their voices heard as expats. The Democrats Abroad function similarly to a state Democratic Party, and they send delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Voters can cast a ballot in the global primary, then vote in their home states for local elections. In Basel, Americans who want to vote, or who want to learn more about the primary, can attend an event on Saturday, March 9, at L'Atelier Basel. It begins at 11:00 AM and runs until 3:00 PM.
Democrats Abroad National Vice-Chair David Heaps and Basel Chapter President Liz Voss joined our show to discuss the primary, Saturday's event, and how to vote from abroad. Listen to the interview here.
More information is on the Democrats Abroad website. And more information about voting while living outside the U.S. is at the Vote From Abroad website. The Democrats Abroad will also be at the Expat Expo, and visitors can get more information about voting.
Spelling is an important skill for each of us. Our musical theme this week covered songs that spell out words in their lyrics. Songs that spell play a distinctive role in music, bridging the gap between catchy rhythms and mnemonic devices. Using spelled-out words, these songs use catchy melodies to get themselves stuck in your head. Across different musical genres, these tunes are fun to listen to, and you might also learn something! We played:
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Kesha - Dinosaur
Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night
Village People - Y.M.C.A.
Depeche Mode - What's Your Name?
Queen Latifah - U.N.I.T.Y.
Hot Chip - Over And Over
Alternative TV - Action Time Vision
The Cure - Fire In Cairo
Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
