Yacht Rock!
Smooth sounds of the 1970s and early 80s filled the airwaves emanating from The English Show at Radio X tonight. Our evening's musical theme: "Yacht Rock". The genre experienced something of a resurgence starting in 2020 and continues to this day. If you have no idea what we're talking about when we say "Yacht Rock" - it is the soft rock style developed in Southern California in the 70s, which developed something of a reputation in the 80s for being the anthems of those that listened to the musical style while cruising through a harbor. Think Christopher Cross and "Sailing" or Kenny Loggins or The Doobie Brothers, and you'll be in the Yacht Rock frame of mind. In case you're still confused, you've no doubt heard the lyrics-free versions of these songs the last time you were waiting in a dentist's office or took a ride on a hotel elevator. The guilty pleasure of even the most grizzled hard-rocker, there's a little Yacht-rocker in all of us!
We played:
Chaka Khan - Through The Fire
The Doobie Brothers - What A Fool Believes
REO Speedwagon - In My Dreams
Christopher Cross - Sailing
Kenny Loggins - This Is It
Pages - You Need A Hero
Steely Dan - Do It Again
