The Upper Strata; Staycation Ideas

Broadcast on:
15 December, 2020

The Upper Strata combine guitar, bass and duelling vocals with loops, sequencers, beats, found sounds and videos. Their new album "Luap Elk" is released December 18, 2020. It is a multi-layered musical journey inspired by Paul Klees' life and work. His art as well as the story of his life have bittersweet notes and qualities that the album captures and reflects. The Upper Strata's Johnny talked to us about art, concept albums, and the story behind presents falling from the sky. You can buy the album on Bandcamp. Listen to the interview here.

Today, we talked about "staycation" options over the holidays, seeing as travel is very much not recommended in the near future. For example, you could stay at a Basel hotel, with some pampering and breakfast thrown in - all Covid-compliant, of course. And lo and behold, the Boutique Hotel Volkshaus is offering just that: a night for two at their hotel worth CHF 299. If you'd like to enter the raffle, go to our Facebook or Instagram pages and comment. We'll draw a winner on Tuesday, 22 December, from the list of people who have left comments. If you're looking for a day of frolicking in the water, head to Aquabasilea. Water Slides, Saunas and pools are all open and the facility is Covid compliant. If you are a film buff, The Best Of Basecamps by the European Outdoor Film tour features their best outdoor adventure films via streaming. Tickets cost CHF15 and cover biking, horseback riding, freefalling your way through the jungles of Papua New Guinea all the way to the icescapes of Canada. If you're looking for a family outing involving the Christmas theme, your kids can have a ride on Basel's Christmas Tram with Santa. The event is running until the 24th of December, and you can find your tickets and infos HERE.
