Gadget Guru - New Autumn Products; Remembering Sue Style
As the season turns to colder and darker, companies start releasing their products to catch our attention on the long nights. Not all of them are very convincing, so Ian the Gadget Guru takes a look at some which are a definite 'yes' and some that are a certain 'no'. Listen to the segment here.
It has been almost a year since the passing of our dear friend and English Show correspondent Sue Style. We received a very touching e-mail from her family on this anniversary, and we thought we would share part of it with you, our community, that had the benefit of her contributions, humor and good-will:
In one of the beautiful conversations we had with Sue, she made clear her wish that any offerings made in the service should go to a grassroots project giving palliative care to people with terminal cancer and living in poverty in Latin America. This was so typically generous of her, giving attention during her last days to people in a similar situation to her, but with little or no access to the quality of care she was receiving.
We are very happy to tell you that after searching for trustworthy references on the ground, we discovered the inspiring work of the Hospice “Buen Samaritano” in Buenos Aires: https://www.buensamaritano.org.ar/
We are sure that Sue would also have been inspired by their work and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who was able to make a contribution - together we were able to send 7000 CHF to this project in April. This has been a truly marvellous way of honouring Sue’s wishes.
As many of you know, Sue was a dedicated gardener - and some of you even had the pleasure of being invited to her gardens or having done a cooking class there. Our musical theme tonight, "Gardens", is dedicated to the memory of Sue:
The Liminanas - Gardens Of Love
Iggy Pop - Gardenia
Courtney Barnett - Avant Gardener
Television Personalities - Salvador Dali's Garden
Siouxie & The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden
PJ Harvey - The Garden
