Culture Tips during Corona Lockdown

Broadcast on:
14 April, 2020

This week, we'd like to shout out Swiss soul singer Nicole Bernegger, who is streaming a live concert on Wednesday, 15th April, at 20:15 on website "Bajour - Gärn gschee Kultur". You can make donations during the concert - all donations go straight to Kulturklinik, a Basel artists' website and online shop.

Basel's House of Electronic Arts is showing its activities online with a varied programme. As an institution dedicated to digital culture and the new art forms of the information age, net-based art has been part of HeK’s program since its origin. The current situation is an opportunity to show and support this exciting art practice once again. Have a look at artworks here. Join workshops online right here - for example, a "LiveCoding - playing music with your computer" workshop on 16 April 2020, from 10:00 - 16:30 (12 years and up).

If you'd like to create your own art, or use art as therapy, the Verein Kunsttherapie Basel is offering ideas on what to draw. It's in German, but any translation software will be able to help out with the instructions.

Garden centres and florists are having to throw away their seedlings and spring flowers because they've all had to close down. A few of them have now banded together to create a network called Gaerta, where you can order all sorts of plants online, including pre-ordering a summer flower box or planter, and they will be delivered to your door. Perfect for sprucing up your garden or balcony!

Basel's music venue Kaschemme has had to shut its doors during lockdown - but you can support the venue by buying their Uptown Sippe Card (18 years and older) for CHF 250.-, which gives you free admission to all their public concerts and parties for 365 days, from the day they re-open. Or get the Uptown Resident Card for CHF 145.-, which gives you free admission to all their parties for a year. They have schnapps for sale, as well!

If you're into arts and crafts, buy a surprise grab bag from OFFCUT Basel and get creative! Plus, listen to us talking about this in the show and you'll find out what the German word "Krimskrams" means.

And finally, get your groove on every evening with Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, who goes live on Instagram for an hour of KT Rave and blasts out dance remixes of all your favourite tunes. Dance, get fit, chat - it's a lot of fun!
