Tobias Carshey, Dr. Rosie - Tattoos (not the Festival)

Broadcast on:
17 July, 2018

Swiss musician Tobias Carshey played a lovely concert at the Gurtenfestival in Bern last weekend. (Check out photos of the concert here.) Carshey released his second album "Semicolon" in September 2017. The title is an allusion to the tattoo trend of the same name, reminding people with depression and people who have survived suicide attempts that their lives go on, that 'the sentence isn't over yet'. It is also a way of talking openly about mental health issues and educating people about these still-taboo topics. Carshey himself has experienced the consequences of depression firsthand and wanted to contribute to the movement with his album. Anna talked to Tobias Carshey at the Gurtenfestival about "Semicolon", music as therapy, and pigeons. Listen to the full interview here.

Our health expert Dr. Naresh Rosie Chauhan ("Dr. Rosie") is a medical doctor who trained in the NHS in the UK and later in the United States. Her specialty is internal medicine, rheumatology, and aesthetics. This week, Dr. Rosie joined us to talk about tattoos.  It seems difficult to avoid seeing tattoos on people in the region and Dr. Rosie told us about the pros and cons.  Before getting a tattoo make sure to ensure your tattoo artist is a health department certified vendor that uses the latest hygene techniques to keep your skin safe.  Make sure you understand how to take care of your skin, the largest organ in your body before, during and after getting a tattoo!  According to Dr. Rosie, you will definitely want to avoid Red, Yellow, Orange colors which have been known to cause negative reactions most often.  And, if your pigmentation is dark, you are at greater risk for adverse reactions from tattoos than those with lighter skin.
