Basel Bake Off, The Vagina Monologues, Fitting Wines - Humagne

Broadcast on:
20 September, 2016

The International Women's Institute Basel (IWI) is hosting the Basel Bake Off, a cake and pudding competition, this Sunday, 25th September! There will be cakes galore for the public to enjoy. 50% of the profits from the event will be donated to the Soup and Chill charity. Head to the Markthalle Basel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. IWI's Helen and Jay came to the studio to give us all the details.

Madeleine Op’t Hof, producer, and Diana Thomson, director, of a new production of “The Vagina Monologues” joined us in the studio as well. The show will be performed for the first time ever in Basel in February next year, as a part of V-DAY 2017. V-DAY is a global movement to end violence against women and girls, through creative events which raise money and awareness. Women of all ages, types and ethnicities are needed to perform in the production. Auditions will be held on 25 September and 1 October. Volunteers are also needed to assist in various capacities. If you are interested in acting or volunteering, please contact Madeleine at mopthof@gmail.com.

And in this month's Wine Show, Simon Hardy of fittingwines.com takes a closer look at not one but two local Swiss grape varieties that you might just think have something in common. One red and one white and both called Humagne. Humagne Rouge and Humagne Blanche - two totally Valaisan specialities. But there's a surprise in store! Listen to the segment again here.
