Sue Style - Indian Restaurants, Josef Salvat

Broadcast on:
22 March, 2016

Our food guru Sue Style came into the studio this week to talk about the rise and rise of Indian/ethnic restaurants in Dreiländereck, many of them authentic places, not just your typical curry joint to fall into after too much beer down the pub. Most people look for 'cheap' when eating Indian - if cost is the issue, the best value is in St Louis and Lörrach rather than Basel (for example, a Lamb Korma at Royal Palace CHF 32.50 versus €16.90 at Ganges/Lörrach or €14 at Maison de l'Inde/St Louis). In Basel, Sue recommended Jay's im Ackermannshof - fun, trendy, South Indian/modern; Mandir in Hotel Spalenbrunnen - slow service but worth the wait; Royal Palace -  close to Schützenhaus, good-value lunch buffet menu on Tuesdays. In St. Louis, there's La Maison de l'lnde on the same street as Geant Casino supermarket, where No. 3 tram will end up; and in Lörrach, you've got the Ganges, which is close to the station, so you can go by train. Some of them even deliver the food to your doorstep - check their websites for details.

Josef Salvat is an Australian singer-songwriter currently on tour with his debut album Night Swim. He performed in Zurich yesterday - before the concert, Salvat talked to The English Show about his musical beginnings, creativity and fear, and what the future holds. Check out a review and photographs of the concert here - and listen to the interview again here.

Our music theme this week is mellow, languid, laid-back. It isn't just one genre, but there is a strand of young artists today who go for melodramatic, emotional music. Think Lana Del Rey or London Grammar - or indeed, Josef Salvat. We played:

Lana Del Rey - Gods & Monsters

BANKS - Beggin For Thread

Lorde - Tennis Court

Josef Salvat - Paradise

Josef Salvat - Till I Found You

Zella Day - High

Broods - L.A.F.

Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years

Bipolar Sunshine - Daydreamer

Flume (feat. Kai) - Never Be Like You
