Filter 4 danc3, Dig It! Gardening Tips - Perennials

Broadcast on:
22 September, 2015

The great Filter 4 art space provides the unique backdrop for three choreographies by successful ballet dancers Jorge García Pérez, Debora Maiques Marin and Javier Rodriguez Cobos. As GMR dance, they are using the space to make current Filter 4 art installation "H2O kontemporär" come to life. Jorge García Pérez came into the studio to tell us more about the production. Make sure to go see this show on the 24th or 25th of September - it is a unique opportunity to see world-class dance artists in an up-close, intimate space - you won't get this kind of experience in New York, London or Tokyo! Hester Macdonald, contributing correspondent of the BlueBox team, garden designer and founder of the Swiss Gardening School, hosts our regular gardening segment, Dig It! The autumn can feel like the end of flowering for many plants, but there are a group of fantastic perennials that are just getting going. Echinaceas, Heleniums and Sedums are coming into their own right now. Hester spoke to Peter van Ruyssen of Plantipp, a new plant promoter in Holland, at the plant fair Plantarium, about their new Helenaium "Short and Sassy." It is long-flowering and compact, fully cold hardy and perfect for a pot. He also presented the new SunSparkler Sedums, with superb metallic foliage and months of flowering. Look out for them now in a garden centre near you. Listen to this Dig It! segment again here.

Our music theme this week was Noise Pop. A subgenre of alternative/indie rock, Noise Pop is just what it says - pop music wrapped in feedback, dissonance, echo, reverb and abrasion. Noise Pop often has a hazy, narcotic feel, as melodies drift through the swirling guitar textures. But it can also be bright and lively, or angular and challenging. We played:

Ride - Kaleidoscope

My Bloody Valentine - Sometimes

U.S. Girls - Down In The Boondocks

The Jesus And Mary Chain - Just Like Honey

Slowdive - When The Sun Hits

The Radio Dept. - It's Been Eight Years

Cursive - Art Is Hard

Velocity Girl - My Forgotten Favorite

Splashh - Something's Here

Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
