Our reporter Gaynor interviewed the curator of a unique shoe exhibition at the Spielzeug Welten Museum in Basel called History under your Feet - 3000 Years of Shoes. Listen to how Liza Snook devoted her life to shoes and what equally hip shoe designer Aki Choklat does for a living. The designers gave insider tips on finding out about the history of any shoe, shoe designer and what’s hot in handbag technology! Plus there's celebrity gossip about David Beckham and Liam Gallagher’s shoe line. You can listen to the interview again here.

Our resident food expert Sue Style was with us this week to tell us about the museum cafés in and around Basel:

Papiermühle Museum café is a great space in the heart of Basel overlooking the Rhein river and the water wheel that used to power the printing presses - there are risottos, Röstis, crepes and a few Asian offerings, plus pasta, panini, cakes & co. and free wifi.

Bistro at the Kunstmuseum, run by the folks at Restaurant Rubino, has a short simple menu, good wines by the glass, and looks out on the central courtyard at Rodin's Burghers of Calais.

Chez Jeannot, café restaurant at the Tinguely Museum on the Rhine, has walls decorated with crazy Tinguely paintings. There's fun, slightly Italian-inspired food and a few tables outside overlooking the Rhine for summer (or hardy winter guests/smokers).

The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein is one of Sue's favorites. It's on the ground floor of the gorgeous Herzog & de Meuron house, offering a handful of seasonal dishes chalked up on the blackboard, local wines by the glass, great Kaffee & Kuchen - and there are English-speaking guided architecture tours of the campus daily at 12:00 and 14:00.
