Best Places to Eat in France - Boeuf Rouge, Openair Frauenfeld

Broadcast on:
15 July, 2014

Music and food, they go together like... well, we're not sure what they go together like, but we know they complement each other beautifully! This week's show reflected a bit of both.

First, in our ongoing Best Place to Eat series, Sue Style took us just over the border to the Auberge au Boeuf Rouge in France. This restaurant is just a hop and a skip past Allschwil, so you can bike there or take the tram and then walk. The Auberge du Boeuf Rouge is in a typical half-timbered Alsatian house and offers standard Alsatian cuisine and occasional specialities. It's packed with locals and Swiss who enjoy the down-to-earth atmosphere in this family auberge.

Next, our roving reporter Alex Pasquale told us about a rather rain-drenched edition of the Openair Frauenfeld. The festival is one of the largest open air festivals in Switzerland and the biggest hip hop open air festival in Europe. This year's line-up included, among many others, Outkast, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Nas, M.I.A., Fettes Brot and Stress. Alex talked about how he survived knee-deep mud, how festival housing has changed, and which acts he liked the best.

Our music theme this week was pure 80s pop: we played Yazoo, Foreigner, Gary Numan, Peter Gabriel, Cutting Crew, Tears for Fears, Starship, Eurythmics, Bananarama and Kim Wilde.
