Emergency break for an Emergency vehicle ● Furry Friend Floats Down The Rhine ● Sudden Summer Sickness

News For 12 September 2023

Last Tuesday a tram 10 found itself having an emergency break near Münchensteinerstrasse. An ambulance travelling back from an operation experienced a near-collision with the tram while manoeuvring across the tracks. As a result, the tram jolted to a stop, sending a senior citizen falling to the floor. The tram continued towards the MParc stop where onlookers assisted the elderly man off the tram. Fortunately, no one had to phone 144 as an ambulance was waiting right there for the man - the one that caused the incident! It is understood that the man was taken to hospital and suffered minimal injuries.

Further unusual occurrences happened in Basel last Tuesday, including the sighting of a person wearing a fluffy bear costume “paddle boarding” down the Rhine. The paddle board in question appeared to be a self-made log raft to match the person's attire. When an onlooker asked the bear where he was going the Bear simply replied “to the sea”. While this activity is not illegal, it certainly was unusual and the question remains, why on earth might someone do this?

Have you found yourself the victim of a sudden summer cough? Well, The Basel-City Health Department has stated that this can be attributed to the extreme temperatures. These long periods of heat have resulted in the Ozone limit values in Basel-city being “significantly exceeded”. Increased amounts of Ozone can lead to burning or itchy eyes, sore throat, chest pressure, pain while breathing deeply, and more. While this may be worrying, the Health department assures that it is not necessary to stay home but that exercise should be avoided when Ozone levels are high.
