GusGus in Aarau and Bern - October 2018
Icelandic band and music collective GusGus have been in the business for over 20 years, forging a path through the frontiers of electronica - from trip hop to techno to house and beyond. Theirs is a sound that you can dive into and luxuriate in for hours. Producer Biggi Veira and singer Daniel Ágúst Haraldsson are currently touring their latest album Lies Are More Flexible around Europe and beyond, with two stops in Switzerland.
Aarau's KIFF is an small venue with a low ceiling - great for that intimate, sweaty club vibe; not so great when all you hear is drunk people shouting into each other's ears. GusGus's music thankfully transcends banal conversation and charms its way into your heart and soul no matter what.
Still, the difference that another venue and audience can make is striking. The Bierhübeli in Bern has high ceilings and enough space for the crowd to spread out. As GusGus's beats and layers of sound echo through the venue, there's a feeling of being transported away from the real world through music. Biggi Veira controls the ebb and flow of the electronic set with a sure and steady hand, while Daniel Ágúst Haraldsson is emotionally on-point with his vocals.
A delight, as always.
