Gadget Guru, Ian Ellery - Dean Kamen's iBot reintroduction with Toyota - June 2016

Ian Ellery joined us this week to update us on the progress of the iBot.  The innovative wheelchair has a come a long way since it was introduced in 1999.  The product which was meant to address the shortcomings of conventional wheelchairs by being able to climb curbs and stairs, as well as raise its user to a standing height, was initially a commercial flop and pulled from the market by 2009 having only sold a hundred or so units.  Now, due to a change in its regulatory designation, the anticipated cost will be dramatically reduced, and Mr. Kamen has brought Toyota on board as a partner to help mass-produce the mobility device.  Click below to listen to more details of the fascinating journey of this gadget...
