Katatonia & Solstafir in Zurich
Swedish band Katatonia and Icelandic band Sólstafir are playing a show in Zurich in February 2023! For over a quarter of a century, both artists have put the emotional connection of their music front and centre. Katatonia's new album "Sky Void of Stars" is out now.
The BBC's description of Katatonia's "grandiose, majestic beauty" seems appropriate for both artists. It's no coincidence that The Guardian's opinion of Solstafir is equally apt: "Total immersion is mandatory".
Katatonia, Sweden's masters of melancholy, have firmly established themselves as the most passionate and skilled exponents of death, doom and dark metal since their formation in 1991. Consisting of singer Jonas Renkse, guitarist Anders Nyström, bassist Niklas Sandin and drummer Daniel Moilanen, the quartet has enjoyed star status in their home country for quite some time. But their fan base is also large in South America and the rest of Europe and has grown steadily in recent years.
Post-black metal is the most common genre description for Sólstafir. But any attempt to put the Icelanders' sound into words is nothing more than an abstraction that in no way does justice to the band's immense musical scope and incredibly independent output. Sólstafir cannot be compared with any other band.
For this show, SOM will be the opener.
