Basel Chamber Voices Concerts - Around The World
Basel Chamber Voices was born out of a project designed to share Welsh culture and music with the Swiss community and, indeed, also with the small group of singers involved. They are a group of friends who really enjoy singing, and they were interested in learning about the music dear to some of them and in bringing that to a larger group of people.
As a choir with a high percentage of expats, Basel Chamber Voices tries to increase contact with the Swiss and other communities around them, and their goal is also to include all generations in this.
The conductor, Claudia Avila, holds degrees from Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The choir rehearses in English, although most of them speak German as well. They perform in a variety of languages, and their current program, Around the World, includes pieces in German, English, Spanish, Italian, Welsh, Hebrew, French, Swedish, Twi (from Ghana) and Latin.
Incidentally, Basel Chamber Voices are aiming for a chamber choir of sixteen (currently at thirteen) and are still looking for male voices to round out the sound for their next program with rehearsals starting in February. If you or anyone you know of might be interested, please contact them through their website, or better yet, come to one of their concerts in January 2015.
