The Therwil Flyers are the 2017 Swiss Champions!

The fifth and final game between the Flyers and Zurich Barracudas kept everybody on edge.

Zurich took an early lead in the first inning with a run. The team added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning.  Meanwhile, Therwil struggled to get their offense going which made their home fans nervous.

The Flyers came alive in the bottom of the eighth when Adrian Kaufmann was hit by a pitch.  David Castillo followed with a towering home run to center field and giving the Flyers two runs.

Therwil was down to their last three outs in the ninth inning, however, Sven Erik Leeman tied the game with a home run to right field.  The Flyers didn’t score another run and the game was forced into extra innings.

The Flyers were in danger of allowing Zurich to blow the game wide open in the top of the tenth inning. Pitcher Takanobu Oshima struck out a batter, then loaded the bases for the Barracudas. Zurich scored on a hit batter.  Oshima composed himself and struck out the next two batters.

The bottom of the tenth inning opened with the Novak Martin grounding out.  Teammate Tyler Krobetzky struck out, which left the Flyers down to their final out.

Takanobu Oshima nailed a double to left field. Rafael Eigenmann hit a double to center field and drove home Oshima. Jose Villarreal drove in the winning run for Therwil with a single.

The Flyers came from behind and won with a score of 5-4.
