Yardbird Theatre Company performs The Tragedian

Yardbird is Switzerland's newest English-language professional theatre company. Launched this summer, the debut season begins with "The Tragedian", written and performed by Glen Wilson and directed by Angela Ekaette Michaels.

Ira Aldridge, born in 1807, was the son of a New York preacher who dreamed of being a classical actor. Hindered by racism, he left America to fulfill his dream, becoming one of the most celebrated actors in Europe. He was the UK's first African-American Shakespearean actor.

Wilson's imaginative and dynamic portrayal is the result of over a year of research into the complex character believed to be the inspriation behind Stanislavsky's Method. Wilson is a London-based actor who has appeared both on stage and on screen.

This inventive one-man show comes to Basel following a successful UK tour. Performances will last 70 minutes.
