Swiss National Day 2018 - Celebrations on the Rhein

Event Dates:
31 July, 2018 - 17:00 - 1 August, 2018 - 02:00

The 1st of August is Swiss National Day. Basel traditionally starts its celebrations on 31 July with a major city festival on the Rhine. Some 100 bars and sales stands as well as numerous music stages and shows ensure a lively atmosphere on both banks of the Rhine until around 2 a.m.

The fireworks display is always the highlight - it'll start from two barges to the left and right of the Mittlere Brücke at exactly 11 p.m. Up to 120'000 spectators can be expected in good weather. It's a good idea to use public transport or walk into town on the day, rather than going by car.

To watch the fireworks, head to the banks of the Rhine or get to one of the bridges. Mittlere Brücke will be packed, Wettsteinbrücke and Johanniterbrücke only marginally less so - all are good for viewing the spectacle.
