Souterrain Festival Basel 2019

Two years ago, part of Basel's underground music scene found its first home in the Kaschemme for a two-day noise festival called Souterrain Lärmfestivität.

The aim of the event was to bring together the underground scene and to prove that there is a lot going on in this city which is off the beaten track.

The focus was on the event being local and having a do-it-yourself attitude. It wasn't about monetary gain, it was about participating and collaborating. The motto was: "from the scene for the scene - a lot of musical noise for very little money". Tickets for the whole event typically cost around 20.-. The idea was to blur the boundaries between musicians, event organizers, artists, and audience.

The music programme itself was varied, with well-known local bands performing next to up-and-comers.

Now in its third year, the Souterrain Festival is continuing in this vein, with more bands than ever - and for the first time, three locations instead of just one. There are even shuttle buses to take you from one location to the next!

It's a great little festival and well worth dipping into if you want to support the local alternative music scene in Basel.
