Post-Fasnacht Stroll Sundays 2019

If you haven't had your fill of Fasnacht, fear not! On the three Sundays directly following Fasnacht, all Cliques and Guggenmusik groups participate in the final act of the carnival, known as the Bummelsonntage, or "Stroll Sundays".

During their chosen day (1st, 2nd, or 3rd Bummelsonntag, depending on the group), the groups go on a small trip somewhere outside of Basel.

Later in the evening, the groups return to Basel in normal street clothes (no costumes or masks) and parade one last time through the inner city, particularly along the Freie Strasse.

Recommended: standing on Freie Strasse or in front of the Restaurant Schlüsselzunft around 8 p.m. - it's mayhem. Or for a less crowded area, stand further down by the road at Marktplatz. Rümelinsplatz is also a great place to watch the Cliques go by.

It's a mixed atmosphere of fun, music, noise, chaos; and melancholy for the Fasnächtler themselves, saying their final goodbyes to Fasnacht.
