New Year's Eve 2017 in Basel city

Event Dates:
31 December, 2017 - 23:30 - 1 January, 2018 - 01:00

An impressive fireworks display will be ablaze once more over the Rhine on New Year's Eve. Traditionally, the fireworks start at 00:30 and the organisers serve out free mulled wine to the spectators on the banks of the Rhine between 23:00 and 01:00. The site handing out the free drinks is near the Johanniterbrücke in Grossbasel (Cargobar).

The more contemplative New Year's Eve celebration is held on the Münsterplatz. It starts at 23:30 with the town’s trombone band. The big bell of the Martinturm (Martin Tower) rings out the old year between 23.45 and 23:55. All the bells in the town then inaugurate the start of the New Year. The church service in the cathedral begins at 00:15 and ends at 00:30.
