Albert Scopin - Asphalt Exhibition

Event Dates:
10 June, 2017 - 17:00 - 12 August, 2017 - 16:00

For five years now, Albert Scopin has been working with bitumen in his 600-square-meter studio in Brombach. Bitumen, or asphalt, is a black viscous mixture of hydrocarbons obtained naturally or as a residue from petroleum distillation. It is used for road surfacing and roofing.

Scopin's studio feels like a foundry or road construction: the asphalt flows onto 2,5-meter large wooden beams. The mass is then quickly distributed and the artist has to struggle to shape the asphalt before it sets. Asphalt, scarcely noticed in everyday life in its omnipresence, is shown in a new light.

When: 10 June - 12 August 2017

Where: Galerie Katapult, St. Johanns-Vorstadt 35, 4056 Basel
